Agility Classes Meet the Trainer's

In agility a dog demonstrates its agile nature and versatility by following cues from  the handler through a timed obstacle course; thus strengthening the bond between dog and handler.

Robin,

I began training in agility with my Papillon in 2006 at MADTA under Michelle. Needless to say it became addictive. I began assisting with the lower level agility classes at MADTA and have progressed to become an instructor for MADTA'S Introduction to Agility class. I enjoy working with the students and their partners, watching them grow as teams and learning to love the sport as we do.

Introduction to Agility:

This class will introduce you & your dog to the agility equipment. You will work on obstacles like Weave Pole, Jumps, Buja Board, Ladder, Tippy board, Table, A-Frame, Dog Walk, Tunnel and Chute. Equipment familiarization, ground (flat) work and agility foundation work are the major focus in this class.

Donna,

I have been competing in agility with my Shelties since 2004. I started my agility career by taking agility classes at MADTA under Michele. I began assisting with the lower level agility classes at MADTA and have progressed to become an instructor for MADTA'S Introduction to Agility. I enjoy teaching and our students and their canine partners are great to work with.

Intermediate Agility Class:

The Intermediate Agility Class is for dogs who have completed an Introduction to Agility Class.  You will be taught how to change directions to follow the flow of the course utilizing Front Cross, Rear Cross, Static Cross, Go On, and Get out skills. You will work on gaining control of your dog's direction, distance, and speed with Speed Circles, 180 Degree, Pin Wheel, Send Run Laterally drills and Weave Poles.

Michelle,

Instructing both Intermediate & Advanced Agility

I have earned titles in Rally, Conformation and Agility both on my dogs and dogs owned by others. I began training in agility in 2000and it became my full time career. I joined MADTA in 2005 and became their Agility Director and Instructor. I teach all breeds and many agility disciplines: AKC, USDAA, UKC, NADAC, CPE, and ASCA. My classes focus on developing a sound agility foundation and handler/dog partnership.

Advanced Agility Class:

The Advanced Agility Class is for dogs who have completed an Intro & Intermediate Agility Class. Foundation Work is Key to a Successful Team. This class will teach you & your dog how to maneuver an agility course. Foundation training continues. You will continue work on Front Cross, Rear Cross, Send and 180 drills. This level adds 270 and Reverse Flow Pivot handling elements. You will work on new course elements consisting of the Box, PinWheel, Serpentine Threadle and Wrap drills. You will be taught how to decide when & where to do each maneuver on course. You and your dog will continue to work on contact control at the bottom of each contact obstacle. Now that your dog has an understanding of the Weave Pole obstacle, training will advance with the introduction of fun games.

Becky,  MADTA'S  4-H Agility Instructor,

I have been showing in agility since 1992. I have competed and titled dogs in AKC, UKS and NADAC venues. I became interested in 4-H after seeing a State Fair 4-H Youth Competition. In 2002, MADTA started an agility training class for the youth in this area. In 2003 our 4-H group competed at the Southeastern Youth Fair in Marion County. Since then our students have successfully received awards and titles in agility in the 4-H AKC, UKC, and NADAC venues. I am honored to work with the local 4-H members. They are our future.
